1. London Guide

Be a Rockabilly rebel

We all like to look good and follow fashion but one of the hardest trends out there is 'Vintage Style'. We make it easy for you with this simple guide.

All the celebs are wearing it (check out are gallery at the bottom) so it's high time you donned your mum's pearls, slapped on some red lippy and stepped out in Style.

Here are our 10 simple rules to keep with the Rockabilly trends.

1. Accessories - Even if you have a high street dress on, make it your own and give it some true vintage class with a small clutch, some pearls, large sunglasses or even a wrestler belt. To get some genuine retro accessories pop into Retro Woman which has a huge selection and many vintage designer names too.

2. Dresses - Get a dress on! That's right, show off your shapely legs in a dress which gives you the formal look of vintage. For that extra touch and to give it that vintage look; 'belt it'. You can't go wrong with a clinched in waist. Very cool and very sexy.

3. Go Red - Black and white are true rockabilly colours but to stop you from looking like Burglar Bill add some red. A small touch of red can do wonders to even the simplest of LBDs. Add movie star red lips, a pair of red heels or even (if you are feeling brave) a big red bow in your hair. We love MAC in Fouberts Place and their red matt lipsticks are fantastic for finishing of any outfit.

5. Heels - In the 30s and 40s a sophisticated woman wouldn't leave the house without a smart pair of heels on her. Even if you struggle with the larger ones try a kitten heel. Why not check out our shoe guide in the shopping section of the London Guide? You might find some vintage gems. A great place to check out some real vintage heels is Absolute Vintage near Brick Lane. There is a huge selection of boots, sandals and courts.

6. Mix and match - If you are buying vintage clothes don't expect everything to match perfectly. Old clothes fade, sometimes you can only find a skirt and it's meant to have a matching belt or maybe it's such a strange colour it will never match anything else in your wardrobe. Never fear - this is bound to happen. With a little bit of imagination you can put all kinds of items together and still pull the look off. You just have to be brave.

7. Alterations - There are thousands of places all over London that do alterations so if you find a vintage number that is just that little bit too big, take it down to your local shop and get a quick fix. In no time we bet that will be your favorite thing to wear. If you are looking for a great place to get your alterations done we would recommend Alterations Tailor in London Bridge.

8. Tights - Get yourself loads of tights. You’ll find that almost everything you wear will involve a skirt or dress and tights are essential to keep up that classic vintage look. If your lucky you may be able to get hold of some with seams up the backs, very 1940s. There is a great sock shop that also sells tights down Neal Street in Covent Garden. Tabio is great to get unusual tights in and frequently has the tights with the seams up the back.

9. Make your own - If you are feeling very brave take a step back into your Home Ed. class and get a retro vogue pattern. In London we are spoilt for choice when it comes to fabric shops so why not give it a go and get creative. You can get your hands on some really fantastic fabrics at The Cloth House in Soho. It's a good place to get fabrics that are just that little bit different.

10. Be Brave - Trying a new look can be scary but really go for it and you'll get a great response.
