Your top carnival flavours
Carnival flavors still linger in London's somewhat damp air after the bank holiday weekend. Get your teeth into some of the finest Caribbean food in London right here.
The Carnival began in 1964 and every year has got bigger and better. Hundreds of thousands of people turn up to taste, hear, see and smell the Caribbean/West Indies in Notting Hill. By the end of the weekend you should've been full of rum punch and still vibrating from the noise of the sound systems.
If you missed it never fear... there are loads of great places to go in London for some great jerk chicken and fried plantin.
In Covent Garden, one of the most popular places to get your rice and peas is Cafe Caribbean . You know the Caribbean cuisine is good when you walk into a place and it is full of people from the Islands sat chatting over their spicy dishes. It's not too pricey either, which makes a change from the various tourist traps you can get stuck in around that area.
Now Caribbean food can be a little scary to some, particularly the vegetarian type of person, but if you fancy giving it a go for the first time you could enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. A place you guys have told us about is Cottons . Plonked on Chalk Farm Road, it's a tiny shop that has very little room to sit in, let alone stand, but the food is excellent and a hit with all its customers. You also don't have to be ashamed at home as you run to the kitchen for another glass of milk to wash down the spice when you order from this place. Good grub all around we say.
The brightly coloured Bamboula Jerk Kitchen in Brixton has had mixed reviews for you guys but we still think it's a winner. The fact you cared enough to shout about it means a lot to us so we thought we'd feature it here. Apparently if you do come here, something for those with a strong stomach is the Goat (Baaa!) Curry, a delicacy we hear.
If you're more interested in the rum than the food Trailer Happiness in Notting Hill has the finest rum punch in London, made from a traditional recipe.
